Something is happening in Night Vale, in that sleepy, creepy, weird little town. Not the normal stuff, like being followed by hooded figures and secret police, or staying far, far away from the librarians. No, there’s something else messing with the people of Night Vale. And it’s going to take science to figure out what.

From the creators of one of my favorite podcasts, Welcome to Night Vale, Jeffrey Cranor and Joseph Fink take readers on another epic and strange journey through Night Vale, a tiny desert town where time doesn’t move the way we think, leaving is almost impossible, and angels are not acknowledged (although they can be seen hanging around Old Woman Josie’s house pretty much every day). Buildings and the people in them are disappearing. Vanishing into nothingness. No one knows how or why this is happening. But Nilanjana Sikdar is the one who takes up this quest to find the answers. But she’s not alone in her journey. With the help of a few members of the Congregation of the Smiling God, Nilanjana is determined to get to the truth.

I am a diehard Welcome to Night Vale listener, so I was THRILLED to receive a review copy of the creators’ latest book. Although it’s chock full of people, places and strange events from the podcast, you don’t need to be a listener to read the book. Readers will be immersed in the world of Night Vale, while following along with Nilanjana to get to the bottom of things. You’ll be with her every step of the way, experiencing Night Vale, it’s people, dangers and beautiful moments that make this place hard to escape. Literally. But why would you want to?

It Devours! is a fun read because it mixes the normal and oh-that’s-not-even-close-to-normal pretty well. There are a lot of funny moments throughout the book and some pretty special ones, too (Cecil & Carlos 4Eva). Pick up It Devours! and get to know Night Vale. I highly recommend it.
