Okay, so I’ve seen three out of four of the film adaptations for A Wrinkle in Time, Ready Player One and Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda (Love, Simon). Here are my spoiler-free thoughts:
A Wrinkle In Time
While I appreciated the diverse cast (always a plus), the beautiful imagery and amazing music, there was something about the film that left me wanting. One of the biggest disappointments was Charles Wallace. He was my favorite character in the book, but I just felt like he was a brat in the film. While I didn’t feel like the film was a bust, I wish it was better.
Ready Player One
This film was a complete disappointment because the story was changed so much from the book. All of the 80’s references made me nostalgic and I had the urge to play Galaga after watching, but I felt like I was watching a video game instead of a film. Ben Mendelsohn and Lena Waithe were standouts, in my opinion, but the film was a let down, especially since the book was so so good.
I LOVED this film! I loved the cast, the story, and the fact that I cried more than once while watching. The subject matter is real and still an issue for many ignorant people. I wanted to hug Simon so many times because what he felt while struggling with his secret made my heart ache. A special kudos goes to Logan Miller who plays Martin. I hated him instantly, which was how I felt when I read the book. What an amazing film.
I’ll update everyone when I see Annihilation, hopefully this week.
