Well, the episode we’ve all been dreading will be upon us in a couple of days. On Sunday, in the year of our Lord 2018, we will say goodbye to Sheriff Rick Grimes. I haven’t been able to watch the past few episodes because I knew they were just leading to Rick’s departure from the series. And it is happening sooner than we all thought.
I have to admit, I was not a fan of The Walking Dead until 2015. I was unemployed and in the middle of a serious job search. My best friend raved about TWD and kept nagging me to watch it. So, after a long day of internet searches, I pulled up the first season of the series on Netflix and got to watching. And watching. And freaking watching. I watched five seasons of TWD in a week because I stayed up all night watching episodes. I wanted to be ready for Season 6. I couldn’t believe how quickly I fell in love with the show, with the characters and especially with Rick Grimes.
I remember Andrew Lincoln from the movie Love Actually, a film I really can’t stand. I watched it once and couldn’t believe why anyone would love that film, especially Andrew Lincoln’s character, Mark. He was such a douche!! So when I realized he was playing Rick Grimes, I let my bias against his former character cloud my judgment. Well, I can honestly say that I was completely wrong. I grew to love The Walking Dead and Rick Grimes and I am beyond devastated that he won’t be around anymore.
Will I watch The Walking Dead post-Rick Grimes? Of course I will. I will watch the show until the very last episode airs. Viewers have lost so many of their favorites along the way and it was only a matter of time before we lost Rick. I prayed that would never happen, but unfortunately, I’m not a writer on the show or he and Michonne would become vampires and live forever and ever, amen.
How do you feel about Rick’s departure? Are you sad about it and dreading Sunday’s episode? Or are you Team I’m-Done-With-Rick? Let me know in the comments.
See you on Sunday. And don’t forget to vote on Tuesday!!
