Upcoming Book Events – New York

Hey folks!  Below are a few events I wanted to highlight coming up in February and March.

1.  BAM Black Comix Expo – Multiple Locations

I learned about this event after visiting the Black Comics Collective’s table when I attended the Black Comic Book Festival last weekend.  Now in its second year, this event highlights the need for diversity and representation in the sci-fi and fantasy genres while exposing fans to creators, illustrators and superheroes of color.  The event is free and open to the public and will be held on February 10.  For more information, click here.

2.  Ink Knows No Borders Book Launch – BAM Fisher Fishman Space

The event will feature the book launch of Ink Knows No Borders:  Poems of the Immigrant and Refugee Experience.  Co-presented by Greenlight Bookstore, poets Safia Elhillo, Carlos Andrés Gómez, Chrysanthemum Tran, and Javier Zamora will be in attendance to discuss their work.  It will be held on March 14 and begins at 7pm.  For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.

3.  Strand Bookstore Events

My absolute fave usually hosts a ton of book events which are just too many to list here.  Check out the events calendar to see if there’s one you may want to attend.  Click here for more details.

4.  Greenlight Bookstore Events

Greenlight is another bookstore that hosts events catered to different tastes and genres.  Check out the calendar to see which one peaks your interest.  Click here for more details.

5.  Revolution Books

This bookstore is a newbie on my list, but that doesn’t mean it’s short on events.  Take a look at the calendar here and purchase a book or three while you’re at it.

6.  Housing Works Bookstore Cafe

Last but definitely not least is the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe.  I’ve attended several events in this space and had a blast each time.  Plus the bookstore (and thrift shop) proceeds go towards helping people affected by HIV/AIDS.  Click here to see what’s what.

That’s all for now, but I will be posting more events as they become available.  Stay tuned!
