Hello Friends!! I had to take an unexpected hiatus but now I’m back and ready to get rolling. I’ve been reading the Buzz Books 2019, Young Adult Spring/Summer book of excerpts and I’ve already requested three advance copies. I read a sneak peek of the upcoming book Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte and I am dying for the full advance copy. Do you think her publisher likes chocolate?
I’m also reading How Long ‘Til Black Future Month?, which is a book of short stories by writer N.K. Jemisin and I am LOVING it, so look out for that review. I’m also taking myself out of my comfort zone to read a book of poetry by Iain S. Thomas. I’ve only read a handful of poetry (like the incredible Milk & Honey by Rupi Kaur), but I’d like to read more. I’m ashamed to say that I’ve never read any of the greats, like Audre Lorde, Nikki Giovanni or Lord Byron. But I plan to change that so look out for posts in the coming months.
As for events, cross your fingers and pray that I hear good news about the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago and the Big Kahuna, San Diego Comic Con. If you hear a very piercing shriek come out of nowhere, you know I’m going to one or both of those events. I’m hoping to also make it back to Book Expo/Book Con and New York Comic Con this year, as well as more author events and signings, starting with Karamo Brown from Queer Eye. He’s starting his book tour and will be in New York on March 5 (see here for more details). I can’t wait to see this amazing man and read his book.
For fun, I’ve been reading The Superior Spider-Man complete collection that a friend let me borrow and it’s so good. I’m also reading Furyborn by Claire Legrand and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. After that, I’ll be reading China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan. If you haven’t read or seen Crazy Rick Asians yet, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
And just because I read books doesn’t mean I don’t love my television shows. I watched both Fyre Festival documentaries (what a scam!), Marie Kondo’s show (my dresser drawers have been REBORN), the creepy series You (I’m never dating again), and I’m currently watching Season 2 of Extraordinary Homes (Caroline Quentin is a national, no worldwide treasure). I’m also all caught up on Grown-ish, This Is Us, How To Get Away With Murder, and Good Trouble. I’m semi-caught up with Steven Universe but I’m waiting for Hulu to release the rest of the episodes. For the love of Cupid, NO SPOILERS. And thank the gods that Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj is back!! It’s the show I had no idea I needed.
Last, but definitely not least, I NEED TO CATCH UP TO THE WALKING DEAD!!! I’ve missed SO much and I PROMISE I’ll catch up this weekend and will post my thoughts. Because after that, I need to get ready for Game of Thrones. Are you ready??
Thanks for being so patient and hanging in there with me. You da best!
