The Walking Dead – Will This Show Ever Stop Breaking My Heart?

So I’m all caught up with The Walking Dead and I’ve cried, raged and just went the fuck off watching the last two episodes of this season.  And this show just keeps breaking my heart.

Before you read any further, IF YOU ARE NOT CAUGHT UP, PLEASE DO NOT KEEP READING.  I AM GOING TO MENTION SOME MAJOR SPOILERS AND I DON’T NEED YOU GUYS ON MY CASE ABOUT IT.  YOU’VE BEEN WARNED.

I get it.  This show is not real.  The characters are not real.  The situation these people are in is not real.  But dammit, I love them (well, not all of them).  And to see what happened to some of my faves during the fair had me upset for a couple of days.  I’ve read the comics so I knew all about Alpha, Beta and the Whisperers.  But Jesus Christ, seeing it all come to life was shocking, even after everything we’ve seen on this show so far.  It reminds us that even though our faves have done what they can to rebirth what they lost before the outbreak, things will never, ever be the same again.

One of the things I noticed about this season is the parallel between Alpha and Carol.  Both were timid, somewhat quiet women who doted on their daughters, but the zombie apocalypse turned them into fierce killers.   Neither of them likes to show weakness, but Carol will do it if she has to.  Alpha has no desire to show weakness and if she does, God help the person who sees it (like that unlucky SOB who got a knife to the head).

Now let’s get to the ten who didn’t make it through the fair.  Some of the characters I honestly didn’t care about but how dare the writers kill off Enid and Tara!!!  I cried real tears when I saw them on those pikes.  REAL TEARS, dammit.  Because although they came to the group under different circumstances, they were part of the family.  And although they didn’t make it, Enid, Tara and the rest went out like badasses.  They fought until the very end.

I’m not sure how much more tragedy my heart can take watching this show, but I know I’ll be watching until the very last credit.  The show is different without Rick (where the hell is he??) but I feel it’s gotten better.  The show was pretty slow for a couple of seasons but I think it’s almost back to where it was when it first began.  It’s going to be a damn showdown come season 10 and if the writers on TWD care about us at all, we’ll see a Carol/Alpha fight to the death.

Until then folks, let’s pour one out for Enid and Tara.  Cheers to you, ladies.  We’ll miss you.
